Hi beauties,
Guess what, it’s my birthday this weekend so I wanted to tap in with a letter.
For those of you who are new! Welcome, I’m Jakari Wing, I post every month. This letter is filled with plenty of gems including birthday reflections, a class I’m offering for tracking wellness goals and guidance for shadow work - specifically for dealing with rejection.
Smol Birthday Reflections
I’m listening to Tinashe’s tiny desk as I write this. A fellow Aquarius hehe. She just said “I’m the rookie and the vet”.
I’m thinking about how I’m moving. How all my things are packed, and truthfully how I’m preparing for a year full of flux and travel. More on that later.
Or how my therapist called me out for being an empath lolol, 10 months later she figured me out.
And finally, I’m thinking about putting in the work and being tested again and again.
I’m the rookie and the vet.
Speaking of which! Let me put my teacher hat on. Because I have some exciting news!
I’m teaching a masterclass…
I’m offering a 90 minute virtual session Sunday March 17th at 4PM EST. This class is for anyone who’s looking to build habits that are consistent and aligned with their mind, body, and spirit. We will discuss proven strategies, work on exercises to unearth your specific wellness goals and infuse inner child play into the process..
Last year I created a successful tracker for my wellness goals. I was surprised that by the end of the year I had followed through with every single goal. I didn’t expect to be so consistent but the structure I built for myself worked! In my last class I shared this graph of my performance from 2023, and it really excited my students hehe.
The goal is to create space in our schedules to allow our higher selves to come forward and ground us throughout the year. Specifically tracking goals that are rooted in divine feminine energy.
I chose March 17th because the week before is daylight savings, and I hope to inspire balance for anyone that feels thrown off from the time change.

On Turning Rejection into Self Love
Now for some shadow work, because even on our birthdays we are tested.
“Fail first, fail hard.”
Those were the words that stuck with me when I finished undergrad. I had decided to follow a career that I knew nothing about. My parent’s were of course concerned and tried their best to find anyone in their network of friends to convince me otherwise. I was connected to a friend of a friend’s daughter, who left me with those words.
The life of an artist is always more sexy from out the outside, because it’s true no one ever tells you how much rejection you’ll encounter until you walk the walk.
Until you become so devoted to your craft that it serves you the way it needs to, and as the bucket list of goals fly past you, they mean something but also nothing. Because you did the ultimate task which is/was/will continue to be “failing forward”.
What happens when you show up to the spaces you once dreamed of? But still feel rejected? Even after doing all that hard work?
Energetically rejection feels terrible. Rejection feels physical and my guts hurt as I write this.
But rejection is such a powerful medicine and tool that can be transformed, transmuted and ultimately alchemized into magic. Magic for you and for anyone you want to share it with.
So darling if you somehow find yourself reading this and you feel downright rejected from something or someone, I have a few tips to keep you going.
This is how you take your power back okay! Triple A style
ACKNOWLEDGE the defeat. Yes sit with it you poor fallen soldier. Wave that white flag, take off your armor and sit with it. The longer you run from it, the more control it will have over you. Also I will always be a huge advocate for the body’s knowledge, once you make a little room and silence, a need will appear. A need will climb up that mountain you kneel at and present itself.
AFFIRM the need. Affirm that having the need is ok. This is where the inner child comes into play. I fully believe that rejection is rooted in our inner child’s unmet needs. So if we are bold enough to sit with the inner child, listen to the inner child and give it a little teddy to play with, the child will show us the way. And since we are adults ( I imagine anyone reading this is an adult btw lol but if you’re not, what are you doing here lolol I love you ), we will sit with this version of ourselves and admire the need, affirm the need, and…..
ACCEPT the need. Accepting is truthfully the hardest part but if you made it this far then you honestly already did most of the work. Acceptance is a part of the process that allows you to be accountable towards your need with ease. Basically accepting that you have this need will pull you out of a spiral quicker. Mainly because you’re tending to the energy that is behind the need.
This, in my personal and humble rookie/vet opinion, is how you can turn rejection, into self love.
Also unfortunately, if you’re like me, sometimes the energy we pick up from other’s is not our own. This process of acknowledging, affirming and accepting is much harder to do when taking on someone else’s energy. Calling my power back to me, makes this AAA process easier because I trust myself and I know I can handle my own darling self.
Also hint hint, this is life work y’all. When I was in my 20’s I thought that I would be able to “fix” myself quickly and easily. But life is like a web and it’s also like a box of chocolates.
My birthday wish for you all is to find FUN and EXPERIMENTAL ways to strengthen your mindset. To take your energy and power back so you can celebrate the moments you worked so hard to be in.
