Film still from Ana Mendieta, Creek, 1974
I did a meditation recently where I envisioned myself. Just bones under a tree. Cackling because that was all I could do. Making a lot of noise, because my bones had no skin.
Trembling, laughing.
There was chaos in the distance, like a tornado or dust storm.
In there was me, or at least this idea I had of myself.
On the outside, a skeleton, unable to breathe. But somehow able to laugh.
Our belly is where we laugh, and also where we hold all our emotions, our sacral chakra. Some of these emotions are left over from our childhood, even past lives, preteen years etc.
All stored here.
Outside the chaos is a gentle breeze. Where willows, oaks and elderberries grow together.
I’ve been sharing space with the different spiritual essences of these plants beings that have so lovingly called out to me.
They grow together, near a river filled with fool’s gold. A river representing the subconscious mind and the constant flow of life.
Here are some field notes on the three:
Willow Tree:
A friend, a gentle symbol of rebirth. So firm and flowy. Grandmother energy. Feminine energy.
Oak Tree:
A strong being, able to maintain even through the most uncertain of times. Ancient friend. Masculine energy. Unearthing that voice deep within. The one that laughs.
Elderberry:
Ether energy. Vitamin C, potent in it’s medicine. Knowing exactly what your unique medicine is. Warding off scary spirits, keeping vibrations of love close by.
I nearly cried after making my first batch of elderberry syrup. Following an instinct and trying my very best to listen just with my heart, a practice I’m working hard on strengthening.
This all brings me to the Blue Heron, a symbol of patience and resilience. The Blue Heron flies with ease, barely needing to flap it’s wings. Tall with a beak that dips into water with great precision.
Blue Heron embodies all the essences of the willow, oak and elderberry. Blue Heron is not afraid to stand in fear for too long, because the inner voice is simultaneously present. Like a lifeguard. Blue Heron is aware of the bigger plan and trusts all will come into place as it should.
Some questions inspired by the Blue Heron for self study:
how can I be courageous right now?
what part of my life is needing grace and compassion?
is there anything my future self would like for me to know right now?
Signing out by sharing some films and songs that I’ve been really enjoying:
