My relationship with writing started as a kid when my mom made me journal almost everyday to improve my English. Eventually I used journaling to move through some very big transitions in life. I have at least 15 journals from the 5 years I’ve lived in NY sitting in my closet.
I’m truly a journal freak and yes my handwriting is very cute. I’m hoping that this newsletter can be a way for me to share my thoughts vs letting them stack up in the closet.
I’m really grateful for my mom for encouraging me to write everyday. Whether she knows it or not, she pushed me towards a medium that I love.
I also want to thank you for being here. Thank you for taking the time to read my words and for subscribing, I am truly grateful.
I guess now we begin.
Passing Time with Jakari Wing
Two months ago I started a social media detox. I decided to go offline in order to gain insight on my body and connect more deeply to my inner voice. I decided that when I go back on, I will try my best to rebuild a relationship with the internet in an intentional and expansive way. I hope this newsletter is a way for me to stay accountable, and to maintain my intentions with creating a healthy relationship to the internet.
I’m excited to present and welcome my newsletter: Passing Time with Jakari Wing.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jakari Wing. I’m a filmmaker, photographer, writer, DJ, and musician based in NYC. I love the ocean, my queerness, my family, fantasy, connection, joy, care and German Shepards.
Currently I’m moving through my saturn return. I feel as though I’m like a little spider, adding layers of web and reflection to my consciousness. I’m connected to the core of my web, I’m also connected to the outer most layer of my web.
One thing I absolutely know is that there is no fast track to healing. Doing all the work in one intense session will cause a release, but sometimes the release can do more harm. I was watching a review to the film Practical Magic the other day and really loved one comment that the Youtuber’s shared, “don’t raise what you’re not prepared for.” This is not to scare anyone or shy them away from trying something that reveals healing. All I hope for is preparation, easeful paths forward, tools, affirmations, a cushion because eventually what is meant for us will reach us. There is no rush.
So here I am writing through it all. Writing to get through those highs and lows and find balance in the flow we call life. I truly hope that whoever comes across my writing gains insight on their own life path.
I find so much peace from reading through honest experiences that I find online. I only wish to share my writings so I can offer the same relief I feel when the words I read ground me back onto my journey.
Outside of some really deep reflections, I’ll be sharing: my dreams, my art, saturn returns, experimental healing, shadow work, intention building, connecting with angels through pop songs and of course my spirituality.
I’m signing off with a song I love “Can We Talk” by Tevin Campbell. The music video was filmed in a part of Central Park where I would visit daily before I moved further Uptown. I’m also including a still from a film I made featuring my dear friend Kazumi dancing to a song I wrote called “I AM A LOVER” in the same location near Bethesda Terrace hehe.
Thanks for being here. I’ll be sharing my next letter very soon.
big love,
Jakari Wing
